Tena koutou katoaWelcome to MECNZThe Mountain Education Centre of New Zealand (MECNZ) is a division of Tai Poutini Polytechnic based at Wanaka, home of the Certificate in Ski Patrol programme.Pre season theoretical and non snow practical training takes place in our Wanaka classroom and in the outdoors environment surrounding Wanaka. Training in the on snow practical elements of the Ski Patrol program takes place at the Treble Cone ski area, only 40 minutes drive from Wanaka. This is based out of our unique "on snow" classroom in the middle of the Treble Cone Ski Area providing the best possible training environment for those seeking a career in ski patrolling. Our philosophy is to provide specialist vocational training to students, to enable them to develop both the skills and work ethic to become a useful entry level ski patroller within a professional ski patrol both in New Zealand and overseas. The training is vocational based as opposed to recreational with the emphasis placed on doing a professional job and having fun at the same time.
